Eligibility and Selection Criteria

Eligibility Criteria

  • Makers, artists, craft people, authors, food preparers, etc., who produce handmade art, crafts, books, prepared food and baked goods who are legal residents of Canada are eligible to apply. Nova Scotia residents will be given priority. Out-of-province applications will be considered after all Nova Scotian applications are assessed.
  • All applications must be complete and submitted by the posted deadline. We cannot process incomplete applications.
  • Applications must be accompanied by clear photos of your work and an adequately detailed description to allow for proper assessment.
  • All work must be originally designed and handmade by the applicant.
  • The maker’s name must be included with products including any legislated labelling instructions ie. product care and use, cautions, or ingredients.
  • Each applicant can apply for a maximum of two product categories.
  • The sale of supplies, and resale merchandise is not permitted. No bulk/factory-manufactured items allowed.
  • Direct sales businesses and other distributor type products and services are not permitted.
  • Items that appear to be in violation of copyright may not be displayed without documentation showing permission from the copyright holder has been granted.

Selection Criteria

The Dartmouth Handcrafters Guild reserves the right to accept or reject applications based on its assessment of the following criteria:

  • All products must be handmade by the applicant and offered in finished form. Any commercial component of a product must be 40% or less. Original photography and painting may be replicated on manufactured items such as paper and canvas.
  • High quality workmanship, overall cohesiveness and consistency of work. Products must be well designed both technically and aesthetically.
  • Uniqueness of product design.
  • The number and diversity of products you offer. Priority will be given to makers with a cohesive product line.
  • The level of technique involved, and the design in terms of its function, will be considered in the evaluation of the overall quality of an item. Items must be capable of serving the purpose for which they were designed.
  • The presentation should reflect your current product offerings and portray an aesthetically pleasing and well-designed presence.
  • The number of similar applications received for competitive categories such as Jewelry and Bath & Beauty. We tend to receive far more applications for these categories than we can accommodate at our show.
